The first 25 minutes of the contest was a good tight competitive affair, with chances at both ends. But once the Poppies settled down they played at a high tempo moving the ball quicker and looking to get out wide and switch play at every opportunity.

The Poppies were getting good early balls into the box with Tom Armstrong and Owen Turner getting into good attacking positions in the penalty area. Armstrong  scored the first goal with further finishes coming from Eddie Brewer, and two from Anesu Mumbune. First half domination followed with Ollie Stevenson creativity on the ball, he consistently looked to break the lines, while Mumbune ran the Red Kites back four ragged.

The second half the Poppies carried on playing good passing football still at a high tempo, scoring two quick goals through Turner & Finlay Little. Changes were made on in the 50th minute with Lewis Starmer and Nathan Best coming on for Roman Buttery and Turner. Ross Irvine replaced Little, Logan Kilgalion came on for Stevenson and finally Mitchell Onyeneke replaced Cameron Dunbar. The Poppies continued to press forward and were rewarded when Best and Kilgalion added a goal each to put the result out of reach for Kettering FC.
