A comprehensive win for the Poppies at Cogenhoe United on Tuesday night that saw just three registered players start for Andy Leese’s side.  Billy Johnson in goal with Rhys Sharpe and youngster Luca Millar were joined by eight trialists for the first 45 minutes.

Two excellent goals from the trialist wearing the number 40 shirt, one direct from a free kick 25 yards (above) after just 10 minutes, saw him double the scoreline with a fine curled shot again from 25 yards, 8 minutes later.

After 25 minutes another trialist wearing the 18 shirt rounded the keeper to slot the ball home to make it 3-0.

Keeper Billy Johnson came into the action  making a low save to his left on 34 minutes, but was otherwise untroubled.

The second half saw the introduction of three trialists while Kelvin Langmead replaced Sharpe.

After 54 minutes Langmead made an excellent assist heading the ball down for Kettering Academy Student, Josh Drain  to drill home from 18 yards to make it 4-0.

Gary Stohrer, Sam Bennett and Tyrone Lewthwaite completed the outfield changes as Millar and  two trialists were replaced.

The Poppies thought they had made it 5-0 when the trialist wearing the 17 shirt rounded the keeper to slot home only to be denied for being offside.

After 71 minutes keeper Johnson was replaced by young academy prospect Danill Lee for his introduction to first team football.

Lewthwaite made it 5-0 on 89 minutes from a tap in from Sam Bennett’s brilliant assist.
