The Poppies first home game of the pre-season saw Andy Leese’s side ease to a comfortable win over the youngsters from MK Dons. Two goals from Sam Bennett and the other from Tyrone Lewthwaite got their season off to a flying start.

Subs:  Luca Millar, Harry Moors, Kai O’Keefe, and a number of trialist.

Gray Stohrer was on hoilday and Lewis White was ill.

After just 5 minutes Sam Bennett opened the scoring with a well drilled shot from 25 yards into the bottom left hand corner giving the keeper no chance.

Ben Toseland saw his shot from 6 yards well blocked by the keeper, before a goalkeeping error led to MK equalising after 15 minutes. MK continued to impress with their number 9 (the goalscorer) also hitting the bar from 18 yards.

On the half hour Bennett’s deft flick almost caught the keeper out but 9 minutes later he slotted the ball home after a good run by Charley Barker who delivered an inch perfect pass for the striker to double his tally.

HT: 2-1

Just 3 minutes into the second half Harry Reilly saw his over stretched effort hit the bar and 9 minutes later MK’s Number 15 saw his attempt do the same.

On the hour Barker, Trialist, Langmead and Trialist 2, were replaced by Kai O’Keefe and 3 other Trialists.

After 73 minutes Bennett almost scored his third goal but was denied by the keeper who pulled off a great diving save. From the resulting corner produced by Rhys Sharpe, Lewthwaite nodded home from close range to make it 3-1.

75 minutes saw Bennett, Reilly, Johnson and Dawson replaced by Millar, Drain and a two Trialists

The Poppies had the majority of the second periods play as MK tired, but overall it was a good run out infront of 241 fans.

Klondike ticket winning no 01765 was claimed by David Boss of Kettering who won £55.

The Poppies host Spalding United on Saturday, a 3:00pm kick off.
