Match Report
An Elliot Sandy hat-trick was the highlight of a competitive game today at Quorn.
Sandy scored first for Kettering after 18 minutes with a well taken goal after some delightful footwork. Kettering keeper, Scott Dutton, was called on to make a sharp save - but would have been disappointed with Quorn's 40th minute equaliser as Karl Slater's shot bounced away from the young keeper and into the net.
In between times, Sandy had three good chances, Dubi Ogbonna also had an effort saved and Silvano Obeng's control let him down at the vital moment.
After the break it was the same story as the Poppies had a number of chances to take the lead. Ogbonna could not get on the score sheet as he fired wide, had a shot saved and hit the bar with a header. Brett Solkhon headed over from a good position, and Sandy's 74th minute effort was ruled out for offside.
Sandy, however, made the win safe with two well taken goals in the 76th and 78th minutes.
Quorn hit the post after a mistake by substitute Scott Goodwin - and then pulled a goal back four minutes from time through a David Hind penalty - this after a very harsh decision for a handball by Gary Milligan after a shot hit him from point blank range.
